Continuous connections

Locations of vertical restart of concrete pouring are generally stipulated in advance and indicated on the construction drawings. NB: reinforcements for the external face must cross through these construction joints.

 It is recommended to:

  • Check watertight sealing between the formwork elements and the hardened concrete.
  • Check cleanliness of construction joint: vertical construction joint surfaces must be systematically cleaned, with a view to eliminating any release agent residue and other dirt. This cleaning generally consists of intensive air/water blasting, followed by elimination of excess water.
  • Roughness is required on construction joint (wooden formwork that has not been planed off; or meshing attached to formwork).
  • Aesthetically-speaking, it is usually preferable to highlight the construction joints rather than attempting to conceal them. For example, one option is to mark out these lines using rulers fixed to the formwork, which are subsequently removed.
